About Us

Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia (HCA) is a leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment.

The Opportunity

Our Dandenong Branch is seeking an experienced Service Supervisor with strong technical expertise and a sharp eye for detail to lead our busy workshop team. Reporting to the State Service Manager, this role operates as the 2IC and is ideal for a leader who thrives in the workshop environment, balancing new machine builds, commissioning, and retail service work.

This role requires an active, front-line leader who is deeply involved in day-to-day operations guiding complex diagnostics, overseeing precise assembly of new equipment, and ensuring every job meets OEM specifications and quality standards. You will play a critical role in maintaining build accuracy, minimising rework, and delivering reliable, high-quality outcomes to customers.

You will be responsible for coordinating and supervising all workshop activities while working closely with your team to drive productivity, technical excellence, and attention to detail across both build and service repair functions.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Take a hands-on approach to workshop leadership, supporting technicians with complex diagnostics, fault finding, and repair execution
  • Oversee new machine builds and commissioning, ensuring all assembly work is completed to OEM standards, specifications, and quality requirements
  • Maintain strong attention to detail across all work, reducing rework and ensuring first-time fix success on both new builds and repairs
  • Plan and manage daily workflows to optimise labour, workshop capacity, and job turnaround times
  • Lead from the front by mentoring and developing technicians and apprentices, building strong technical capability and workmanship standards
  • Allocate resources effectively across new equipment builds and retail service jobs, balancing competing priorities and deadlines
  • Act as the key technical escalation point, driving root cause analysis and continuous improvement in workshop practices
  • Ensure accurate job documentation, service records, and compliance with warranty and OEM reporting requirements
  • Promote and enforce a strong, proactive safety culture aligned with WHS standards
  • Monitor WIP, job costing, and workshop efficiency, identifying opportunities to improve productivity and service quality

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Relevant diesel or mobile plant mechanic trade qualifications
  • Proven supervisory experience with strong leadership capability
  • A demonstrated commitment to safety and a solid understanding of WHS principles
  • Experience in earthmoving equipment maintenance
  • Excellent time management with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • A continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to support and drive positive change
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on keeping all stakeholders informed
