The Opportunity

Hitachi is seeking an experienced Senior Diesel Mechanic to join our Launceston Workshop team.

Reporting to the Service Manager, you'll be a key technical expert within the workshop, applying your skills across diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance of our industry-leading equipment. You'll also have the opportunity to share your knowledge, mentor others, and contribute to the success of a close-knit team.

This role is ideal for a skilled mechanic looking to take the next step in their career while remaining hands-on and working with a leading OEM.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform new machine assembly and pre-delivery inspections
• Perform diagnostics, maintenance, repairs, and fault finding on a range of Hitachi earthmoving equipment
• Provide technical guidance and support to a small team of workshop technicians
• Assist the Service Manager with coordinating workflow and prioritising jobs
• Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard
• Support apprentices and junior technicians through mentoring and knowledge sharing
• Liaise with internal stakeholders to ensure customer expectations and deadlines are met
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement across workshop operations
• Maintain accurate service records and documentation
• Champion Hitachi's strong safety-first culture

About You

To be successful in this role you will have:

• Trade qualification in Diesel Mechanics, Mobile Plant Technology, Heavy Vehicle Mechanics, or similar
• Strong experience maintaining and repairing earthmoving, construction, mining equipment or similar
• Advanced diagnostic and fault-finding capabilities
• Previous experience mentoring, coaching, or supporting technicians
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
• A strong commitment to safety, quality, and customer service
• The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
