Reporting into the Engineering Manager, the Design Engineer is a full-time opportunity to join our Engineering team in Wacol, Brisbane. This role will play a key role in delivering functional, safe, and sustainable engineering solutions for our valued mining customers.
About the Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Design Engineer to contribute to innovative engineering projects within a globally recognised OEM. Working as part of a collaborative engineering team, you will be responsible for developing and enhancing design solutions, undertaking engineering analysis, and supporting the delivery of high-quality products that meet customer and operational requirements.
As a key member of the team, your responsibilities will include:
- Develop and deliver engineering designs and modifications for heavy mobile earthmoving equipment.
- Produce detailed 3D models, engineering drawings, and design documentation using CAD software.
- Perform static and fatigue hand calculations to validate engineering designs.
- Undertake engineering analysis and support finite element analysis (FEA) activities to ensure product integrity and performance.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities.
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant engineering standards, safety requirements, and quality expectations.
- Support product development, innovation initiatives, and engineering investigations.
- Provide technical expertise and engineering support to operations, service teams, and customers where required.
To be successful you will need:
- A demonstrated commitment to safety with a proactive awareness and commitment to Hitachi's number one priority.
- Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering.
- CPEng and/or RPEQ accreditation will be highly regarded.
- Strong technical design capability, including experience with static and fatigue hand calculations.
- Advanced computer literacy and experience using 3D CAD software, with SolidWorks experience highly regarded.
- Experience using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools.
- Experience working with heavy mobile earthmoving equipment will be highly advantageous.
- Conversational or professional Japanese language skills will be viewed favourably.

- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build strong relationships across internal and external customer groups.
